THE FORENSIC ART OF FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION

FORENSIC FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION DIGITAL DRAWING WORKSHOP

This intensive digital drawing workshop will provide an in-depth analysis of the skull, focusing on its structure, planes, proportions, landmarks, and key forensic anthropological insights. Facial features are analyzed in detail to understand how cartilage, fat, and muscles shape their structure. This course is geared toward advanced artists, and forensic and medical professionals, with a working proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator. Background in classical portraiture, forensic science, and medical applications will enhance the accuracy of the reconstruction. This unforgettable workshop will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the role of art in the pursuit of justice.

THE PORTRAIT IN CLAY

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 10 am-4 pm

This seminar will focus on lectures on anatomy, emphasizing bone structure and discussions on expression and ethnic differences. Three days of intensive work will be spent on sculpting a head in water-based clay while learning techniques to create successful portraits. Students will complete numerous exercises with step-by-step instruction, in addition to working from live models. The technique of preparation for firing water-based clay will be discussed, though firing services will not be provided during the workshop. Note: All materials will be made available for use during the class. Students are also welcome to bring tools of their own that they prefer to use when sculpting.

MIXED MEDIA PAINTING: Intermediate to Advanced

Join us for an exciting three-day multimedia art workshop where creativity knows no bounds! Expand your painting practice by experimenting with various material processes, such as mono print, collage, and painting. Employ simple creative guidelines using these materials and other painting methods to explore compositional techniques that make effective use of space, pattern, and layering in your work. Along with daily material demonstrations and a priority on individual working time, this workshop will include lectures and discussions based on relevant artworks, design issues, explorations of content, and constructive peer and instructor feedback about in-progress work. You will leave with a few small works-in-progress or finished pieces, as well as new collage materials, processes, and ideas to incorporate into your personal studio practice. Students will explore the range of possibilities available in the world of mixed media. Whether you are new to the genre or an experienced artist needing a spark of creativity, this class will get your ideas flowing.

HEART OF GLASS

Heat things up in the hot shop in a creative night out experience! Participants of all levels will learn how to safely use the hot shop, gather glass from the furnace, add color, and shape it into a glass heart. All skill levels are welcome.ÌýNote:ÌýObjects created in class will need to cool and can be picked up the following week. All supplies are provided. Please wear closed toe shoes and natural fibers (cotton), as synthetic fibers can melt near high temperatures. Please remove all jewelry from hands and arms. Enrollment is limited—register early! Beginner to intermediate skill levels welcome.

GLASS BLOWN FORMS

Take a dip into glass blowing or build on your experience in this four-day skill building class. Participants of all levels will practice fundamentals, and discover new techniques while creating unique glass objects. An overview of the hot shop essentials includes teamwork, terminology, safety, tools, and a variety of working methods to build students’ knowledge and equip them with an understanding of the material and how to apply it to their own work. This course will include demonstrations, directions, and hands-on experience.

Note:ÌýSome of the objects created in class will need to cool and can be picked up the following week. All supplies are included.

GLASS SURFACE DESIGN

This immersive workshop is an introduction to surface design techniques that may be applied to glass-blown forms. Cold-finish work will introduce students to glass-finishing and texture methods including sandblasting and wax-resist techniques. Applying molten glass to an existing form will require hot shop teamwork and offer colorful options. An overview of the hot shop essentials includes teamwork, terminology, safety, tools, and a variety of working methods to build students’ knowledge and equip them with an understanding of the material and how to apply it to their own work. This course will include demonstrations, directions, and hands-on experience. The focus of the course will be to expand material awareness and develop skills to enhance the glass surface.

Note:ÌýProper attire is mandatory for working in the hot shop. Long pants, comfortable t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt, and comfortable, closed-toed shoes. CRAFTING POSITIVE PROPAGANDA: Letterpress and Linoleum Block Printing

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday: 9 am-1 pm

Come explore the powerful art of propaganda poster design in this hands-on workshop. Using traditional letterpress printing with wood and metal type, combined with linoleum block carving, participants will create their own 10″ x 13″ poster. During the workshop, you’ll learn how to design, carve, and print on a Vandercook SP-15 proofing press, and draw inspiration from both historical and contemporary propaganda. All skill levels are welcome.ÌýNote: All materials, including paper, ink, linoleum blocks, carving tools, and letterpress equipment, will be provided.
